Behind the Scenes 002: Showing a Portion of My Abstract Art

This is part of the ink works for the current artwork I am working on, ADG26.019 Quadrata 07. I enjoy drawing these intersecting hatch lines that create an illusion of a weave. This takes time to do, but I love that the effort behind making it is visible in the final work.

I actually stumbled upon this weave form by accident. Usually, after using a pencil to draw my grid to the paper, I then proceed to ink with a 0.05 fineliner the borders of the squares so as to give a precise and sharp look to it. However, for one of the sketches I did, I forgot to do this and just proceeded straight to hatching the lines, with the next square being perpendicular to the hatch of the adjacent square. Eventually, I realized that having the lines slightly go over the square was creating an illusion of weaving, so here we are!

Quadrata 07 will be a work that combine aspects of other artworks I have done before, specifically the other Quadratas (Like Quadrata 01) and some of the Linea works I have also published here in the blog (Linea 01). The weaves will be the primary background element, while the central element will be a 4 way symmetrical pattern similar to the other works I have done before.
